Dream Garden Project

Transforming my front yard into a garden space has been physically and mentally therapeutic. It’s been great for me, the kids are planning their own garden patches and even Adam is looking forward to seeing it bloom.

Our family finances have very much not enjoyed this project, however. We’ve been as cost-conscious as possible - doing all of the physical work ourselves, starting plants from seed, creating a compost area, and saving our leaves for mulch.

Just a few years ago this is the type of project that my income would have covered. Now, that income is pretty much nonexistent. So I’m going to lean. I’m going to ask for help.

Get It Gone!

This transformation has created a LOT of yard waste. We’ve put everything that we can into our own compost heap, but there are branches from trees, two full bushes, and branches from an overgrown hedge that need to be hauled away.

We can get it loaded and hauled away by a woman-owned composting company here in town for $160.

PART ONE IS ALL DONE!!!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

It Starts With Soil

After pulling out the 12-foot Juniper bush in the yard we’re left with a pretty massive hole, and a slope where the yard eroded behind that beast.

We must add 1.5 cubic yards of soil to level it with the rest of the yard.

1 yd is $65 / .5 yd is $36 / delivery is $115

SOIL HAS BEEN ORDERED!!!

PART TWO IS FINISHED!

Summer Dreams

While I have saved a lot of money by starting many plants from seed, I’m simply not able to do that for everything. There are 14 plants that I’d love to have in my garden. I’ve been able to find them for about $10 each.

Everything I’m planting is a perennial that is either native to Colorado or well suited to our soil - these are plants that will last for years here.

$152
